Let me nay-say here, then. The iPad does _nothing_ to solve the problems inherent with tablets.

Contrary to what geekdom would have you believe, usability has never been a problem with tablets.

The problem with tablets is that they are too damn big to be really portable, and not powerful enough to compete with other tethered devices (such as a MacBook).

If Apple had announced the iPad could be rolled over, then I would be excited. As it is, I’m between bored and disgusted. Not that I don’t think the iPad is cool, that it will sell, or has its niche. It’s just that I think too many people thinking how great the iPad is *doesn’t have to walk around all day carrying the damned thing*, such as the users they think are the target for the iPad.

@Daniel: I guess it depends on use cases.

I guess 90% of what I do with my MacBook/Lenovo I could do with an iPad. But the iPad is much more portable, a laptop really isn’t inside the house. Either you do not shut it and the display will break or you close it and then have to wait until it works again (doable with a MacBook, plain anoying with a XP/Lenovo).

“iPad is *doesn’t have to walk around all day carrying the damned thing*”

I walk around all day with either a MacBook or a Lenovo X200 + a heavy Blackberry and some time ago an aditional iPhone, which I dropped because it was too much. So having an iPod instead of a Lenovo+iPhone combination safes me weight and space.

But as I’ve said, YMMV
